about

Here's one for the Equinox, an old one I wrote back in the Fall of 2012. I had met a truly radiant and resplendent person at a community retreat on a farm in Ohio, whose light I just wanted to bask in, who I could not, for the life of me, work up the courage to talk to.

In Celtic spirituality, Thin Places are "places of energy. A place where the veil between this world and the eternal world is thin. A thin place is where one can walk in two worlds – the worlds are fused together, knitted loosely where the differences can be discerned or tightly where the two worlds become one."

So this song is about in-between spaces, the heavens and the foothills, summer heat and autumn sweetness, the restless space between the electrifying risk of a new friendship or choosing to stay hidden.

lyrics

lyrics:
clouds come low
press their palms
against the ohio
making faces in the mirror
of each other, belly laughing

thin places, I have read
are when the heavens come
to lay their head
in the bosom of the foothills
green and red, green and red

I have no way of knowing
which conclusions you've drawn
or what you've overcome
to dance as freely as you do
but this wisdom that I'm seeking
ain't buried in the books I've read
but in a simple conversation,
"hello," and "how are you?"

well I thought it would be different
but I'm glad that I was wrong
yes I thought it would be different
but I'm glad that I was wrong

so I start my day with some
bread and some wine
but I'm still hungry for a smile to share
with this stranger passing by
well the invitation's open wide
just gotta tie my shoes and step outside
this old curtain that I hide behind-
my comfort and my pride

well I thought it would be easier
but I'm glad that I was wrong
Yes I thought it would be easier
but I'm glad that I was wrong
